June 1939. A fifteen-year-old boy named Julien comes to his parents' family estate for summer holidays. Julien is from a noble family, but his family has become impoverished and now has to maintain a small boarding house in the family castle.
As a result, a motley company gathers at the estate for the summer: a mad German professor by the name of Gnus with his daughter, the "blonde beast" Liselotte; the published, but still beautiful actress Clementine, who once played in films about Zorro; Julien's older sister, "blue stocking" Claire and her fiance Charles; and There are also two lovely cousins of Julien, baby Puna and the already mature Julia.
There are several novels between the characters.
